What to pack for a mountain day in the Mocho Choshuenco destination
Southern weather changes fast. Here's how to pack a safe, comfortable daypack for the volcano, the glacier or the forest.
Weather in southern Chile changes fast: a clear morning can end with wind and rain. Packing well is part of a safe day out.
The essentials
- Layers: a synthetic or wool base layer (avoid cotton), a warm mid-layer and a waterproof, windproof jacket.
- Hiking boots with good grip, ideally broken in.
- Hat, gloves and neck gaiter, even in summer.
- UV sunglasses and sunscreen: radiation is much stronger on snow and ice.
- 1.5 to 2 litres of water and energy snacks.
- Personal medication and ID.
