Tips for travellers coming to Choshuenco

Cash, best months, cycling, protected rivers and other practical tips for your visit.

Choshuenco is a small town between Lake Panguipulli and the Mocho-Choshuenco volcanic complex. These tips will help you plan your trip.

Bring cash

There is no ATM in Choshuenco. Withdraw money before you arrive and check payment options with each business.

Best months

December, March and April are ideal for outdoor activities: long days, good weather and fewer visitors than in peak season. In winter, with snow, the mountains offer snowshoeing and skiing.

Get around by bike

The area has four reserves and parks you can explore and link up by bike (Neltume Park, Pirinel Park, Mocho Choshuenco National Reserve and Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve), a relaxed way to discover the forest, lakes and villages.

Protected rivers

The Llanquihue and Enco rivers have special protection: catch and release is mandatory. Follow the rules and look after their banks.

Be ready for southern weather

Heading to Argentina

The Hua Hum pass is crossed by ferry over Lake Pirihueico from Puerto Fuy. In summer and on long weekends, book ahead and have your documents in order.

Leave it better than you found it

Take your rubbish with you, only light fires where allowed and respect wildlife. Small actions make a difference in such a fragile destination.
